Finding Joy in a Chaotic World

I woke up this morning to birdsong and dread,

The sun kissed my face while the news punched my head.

A meteor’s coming, the bees are all dead -

But coffee still brews, so I’m not going back to bed.

The left screams “Repent!” While the right says “Rearm!”

I just want to write and do no one harm.

I talk to my dog - he doesn’t vote, doesn’t bite,

He whispers the secrets to constant delight.

Reality’s fractured (I’ve counted the cracks),

One version has goblins, one’s ruled by Goldman Sachs.

In this one I’m anxious, in that one I’m wise,

In another, I just bake and win every prize.

I once saw a squirrel give a TED Talk on fear,

And a pigeon in yoga pants whispered, “I’m queer.”

Reality’s slippery when you tune in too wide -

You’ll find prophets on TikTok and God on the side.

The world is a mess - yes, that much is true,

but laughter’s my armor and weirdness my glue.

I waltz through the chaos, I tango with fate,

I find joy in a snail and the food on my plate.

So if you feel splintered, too woke or too numb,

Like you’re tuned to the static of all that may come -

just dance with the nonsense, befriend the absurd,

and sing with the pigeons (they do know the word).

Because joy, dear reader, helps one feel unstuck -

In a world gone berserk, it’s rebellious as fuck.

A mad spoon finding joy in a chaotic world.
